Kira the Kat-Introduction and Character List

The Adventures of Kira the Kat is an independent cartoon, currently popular among university students, Hedi, and other connoisseurs of deranged animation. It’s the tale of a cynical, pragmatic white cat with Force powers. He escaped his evil Sith master and the watchful eyes of Galactic Animal Control. In the ensuing struggle, he managed to acquire an Animal Control starship. Now Kira the Cat is fighting his way through the universe. He’s collected a strange array of hamsters, mice, and other weird animals to help him. Unfortunately, their “help” often drives him up the wall and to displays of Force lightning.

Kira the Cat
has not made a major impact on galactic entertainment yet. It’s the work of kids-albeit talented kids-and currently has a limited audience. Viewers aren’t entirely sure how to take it. Nearly everybody in the galaxy has heard about Kira Keldav’s crusade against Mrs. Beasley’s cats. Some consider it a cash-in on the latest viral sensation. Others, mostly those who watch the news more closely, can see links between what’s going on in the cartoon and current events. They wonder if it’s a documentary.

Character List

The Adventures of Kira the Kat has a fairly substantial cast. This is a list of some memorable and important characters.

  • Kira the Kat is the main character. He’s a white alley cat with red eyes, a bad attitude, and prehensile front toes (the better to wield his lightsaber). The leader of the group, Kira is often the most level-headed and pragmatic of his peers. He’s not entirely sane, though, with strong risk-taking tendencies and a bad attitude toward authority.
  • Bin-bin the Hamster is responsible for maintaining Kira’s stolen Animal Control ship. His Force precognition is attuned to hyperspace, which makes him a bit erratic and prone to wild gadgeteering.  Fortunately, Bin-Bin uses these skills for good . . . and science!
  • Handy is a drunken hamster and a ridiculously skilled pilot and navigator. Before he met Kira, he flew tiny hamster starships all over the galaxy. Handy tends to be cheeky and tries to stay out of everyone else’s trouble.
  • Lazzy Kitty has appointed himself Handy’s bodyguard-despite being a cat and therefore inclined to eat hamsters. He’s inhumanly strong, skilled with his claws, and a good fighter pilot. Lazzy Kitty is highly loyal to Handy and doesn’t stray far from him.
  • Boomer is a rare kind of hamster: the type that explodes. He comes back fine afterwards. Boomer claims to have refined his skill with explosives as a salvager. His risk-taking and nigh-precognitive abilities with sensors make the others wonder sometimes.
  • Jar-Jar is technically a doctor, but displays considerable gambling ability. He’s recently acquired an interest in biology and genetics. Like Handy, Jar-Jar tries to stay out of the others’ mayhem, and even succeeds most of the time. Jar-Jar is a mouse: their small fingers are well-suited to the demands of binding wounds and surgery.
  • Alice is neither a cat nor a rodent. She’s a bunny rabbit with a very big gun. While she claims to be a noble, and certainly backs it up with her naivete and wealth, she’s also impulsive and adrenaline-crazed enough to stick with Kira and friends.
  • Val the Kat is also a Force-trained cat, but she doesn’t use a lightsaber. Instead, she uses her powers to turn herself into a weapon. She has some history with Kira that hasn’t been defined yet. Considering Val is black, trained under the same master as Kira, and is some sort of princess, it can’t be good.
  • The Hiss is a group of evil kitty Force-users that Val works with. They tried to train Kira, but he was too rebellious for them to handle. Builders of superweapons and bringers of chaos, the Hiss are highly dangerous. Their opponents are the Mew, who Kira reluctantly and grudgingly works with occasionally.
  • The Fuzzies took over Kira’s ship because their homeworld was under constant attack, and they needed evacuation. Their “individuals” are silicon-based hive minds. While they’re definitely freaky, their skills as technicians are incredible. Jar-Jar wants to combine them with organic life forms and make cyborgs.

  1. Well now… You definitely have a talent for cartoon parody. I’d actually had a slightly less-recognizable cast in mind, but I certainly hadn’t thought about it in any detail, other than a vague idea of self-exploding red shirts. Your version works very nicely though!
